eRIC G4 requires no client software so it can be accessed from any popular Web browser and most major operating systems. eRIC G4 also provides emergency access via a modem to the BIOS level of mission-critical servers, even when the network is unavailable.

BENEFITS

Feature

Benefit

Hardware Features

Multiplatform Support

Compatible with different types of platforms (PC, Sun®, Mac®), and server form factors 1U and 2U).

IPMI Support

Supports IPMI 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 over IPMB and LAN and communicates with BMC to generate all needed hardware information remotely.

Remote Console

Access via Web Browser with Java™ VM

Easy access to target from any Java-enabled Web browser, such as Firefox®, Internet Explorer and Safari

Remote Management

Remote administrators can perform all management and configuration changes to servers from the convenience of their desktops.

Virtual Media

Dual-channel Virtual Media allows a remote user to transfer installation files and other media to and from a target machine over KVM ports. Virtual Media support, via USB mass storage, includes floppy, CD-ROM, DVD and hard drive redirection.

Double Virtual Media

Two devices can send or receive media at the same time, useful for special applications like boot-up.

Power Management

Reset/Power using Reset/Power Wires

The remote server can be powered on, powered off or reset over IP. Please contact your Raritan sales representative to find out if you need additional adaptors for the Reset/Power solution.

Power using ATX Power Cable Adapter

eRIC G4 does not require external power supply. It powers directly from the server or PC. However, an optional power adapter is available.

Network

IP Auto Configuration with DHCP, BOOTP

Easy set-up and administration.

Serial Port

Users can connect a modem, log in and control the server via Telnet and SSH instead of using a Web browser.

Security

256-bit SSL v3, TLS v1 Encryption

Extremely high level of data security protects server environments from malicious hackers.

Event Logging

Tracks user logins, logouts and power activities to provide a secure audit trail in order to meet regulatory compliance.

FAQ

What is eRIC G4?
eRIC G4 is a remote management card that enables IT administrators to access and control a server over the network with BIOS-level functionality. eRIC G4 is completely hardware and OS independent; users can troubleshoot and reconfigure servers even when servers are down.

How does eRIC G4 differ from remote control software?
When using eRIC G4 remotely, its interface may seem similar to remote control software such as pcAnywhere, Windows Terminal Services / Remote Desktop or VNC. However, because eRIC G4 is a hardware solution, it is much more powerful:
  • OS and hardware independent. eRIC G4 can manage any type of server running any OS, whether Intel®, Sun®, PowerPC™ running Windows, Linux®, Solaris™, Novell®, etc.
  • Agent-less/State-independent. eRIC G4 does not require the connected servers OS to be up and running, nor does it require any special software to be installed on the managed server.
  • Network-independent. Even if the connected servers own network connection is unavailable, it can still be accessed and managed via eRIC G4s modem port.
  • BIOS-level access. Even if the server is hung at boot up, requires booting to safe mode, or requires system BIOS parameters to be altered, eRIC G4 still works flawlessly to enable BIOS configuration changes.

What kinds of applications does the eRIC G4 support?
The eRIC G4 is especially suited for remote administration of all kinds of servers and PCs, because any compatibility problems are averted. System integrators can stock just one type of card and deploy it in a wide range of platforms. As a non-switched solution, it is also well suited toward mission-critical servers needing a fully dedicated access path.

How do I access servers in which eRIC G4 is installed if the network becomes unavailable?eRIC G4 offers a modem port for attaching an external modem (high- profile bracket only). With this modem, your servers can still be remotely accessed in the event of a network failure. In addition, you may attach eRIC G4 to a separate network that is independent of the network to which your servers are connected.

What are the speeds of eRIC G4's Ethernet interfaces?
eRIC G4 offers an Ethernet interface with 10/100 Mbit/sec and duplex settings (both can be auto-detected or manually set). eRIC G4 does not require a Gigabit Ethernet interface because its output (see above question) does not exceed the 100Mbit/sec limit of 10/100 Ethernet networking.
