Capelle aan den IJssel, 2 February 2010 - Raritan unveiled a Build-to-Order program that enables customers to custom design intelligent Power Distribution Units (PDU) to best meet their data center needs. Raritan intelligent rack PDUs collect useful energy information in data centers -- including real-time rack-level and outlet-level power information and environmental data, such as temperature and humidity.
To meet the complex and unique power requirements of data center equipment racks, the Raritan Build-to-Order program enables customers to select PDU options in a number of categories -- such as plug type, input cord length, outlet type, number of outlets, voltage, current, and single-phase or three-phase Wye or Delta configurations.
"We are able to meet all of our customers' needs through Raritan's Build-to-Order process," says Jami M. Moore at JEM Computer, a Raritan partner. "We can now satisfy almost any customer requirement and configuration, including voltage, amps, plugs, receptacles, and form factor. One of our customers, for example, needed a mixture of C19, C13 and 5-15R outlets in their PDU configuration in order to power their blade servers, 1U servers and other IT equipment within their rack mount enclosures.”
According to David Wood (Director, Operations & Quality), the Build-to-Order capability has helped streamline Raritan's supply chain and manufacturing processes -- benefiting customers, reseller partners and the company. "Our Build-to-Order process requires our engineering teams to simplify designs and increase configurability by developing reusable building blocks in product design. As a result, manufacturing intervals have been reduced and factory responsiveness has increased, enabling us to get custom products to customers quickly. Raritan's reseller partners benefit by having the broadest portfolio of intelligent rack PDUs to offer their customers.”
Raritan intelligent PDUs, sold under the award-winning Dominion® PX brand, provide unique power information to help answer key data center questions, such as 'where servers should be placed for optimal efficiency' and 'which rack has available capacity.' Customers have a better understanding of how much and how their data centers consume energy and, as a result, can take steps to improve efficiency -- and track improvements.
Raritan's intelligent rack PDU portfolio is the largest in the industry and includes single-phase, three-phase, outlet-metered, outlet-switched, and inline power meters to meet the needs of diverse IT environments. Environments that range from server rooms with legacy equipment and basic power strips, to high-density collocations equipped with high-power blade servers with as many as six separate power supplies. Raritan intelligent rack PDUs are available worldwide from Raritan's channel partners. More information on Raritan’s power solutions can be found at Raritan.eu/energy-monitoring/
Raritan’s intelligent rack PDUs come with built-in monitoring, security and networking capabilities. They are designed to gather extensive power information, including data on voltage, current, power factor, apparent power (kVA), active power (Watts), and kilowatts per hour (kwh) energy consumption with billing-grade accuracy. To make it easy for data center operators to view power activity, real-time information can be seen with a local display at the rack and from a remote user interface via a Web browser.
The Build-to-Order intelligent rack PDUs are fully compatible with Raritan's Power IQ™ energy management software for analyzing power usage and tracking trends. A free trial version of Raritan's Power IQ software is available at Raritan.eu/power-iq-download/
